B and C

Taft wanted to revise a tariff, which was the first thing on his list to do.  Taft called Congress into special session and even sent a message to Congress asking for their revision to be prompt.  This resulted in the Payne-Aldrich tariff bill, which Taft signed.  Taft was disappointed when his high expectations weren't met, but he wanted to do what was best for the party.  "I could make a lot of cheap publicity for the time of being by vetoing the bill but it would leave the party in bad shape... and the only person who would gain popularity would be your humble servant" (Korzi, Michael J).  He signed the bill not because he liked it, but because he thought that was what was best for the party (Korzi, Michael J).  This Tariff divided the Republican party, which is why Roosevelt did not take on this task.  In the end, Taft thought it was the best bill form the Republican Party (Taft, William Howard).  This was not one of Taft's successes because he was doing it for his party, but many didn't even agree with it.

Without Roosevelt, Taft wouldn't be President.  Without Taft, the Republican Party wouldn't have split.  Wait, how does that work?  Roosevelt made it difficult for Taft because in the beginning Roosevelt used his influence to get Taft elected.  Taft was very different from Roosevelt and supporters were most likely unaware on how different they were.  Taft did things as President, such as signing the Payne-Aldrich tariff, that Roosevelt would not have done.  There for those in support of Roosevelt would not like this, leaving Taft with many who opposed.  Roosevelt also used his power in the Republican Party and his Relationships from being President to start campaigns opposing treaties that Taft signed.  Because Taft was not like Roosevelt at all, by the end of his Presidency, Roosevelt despised Taft and the Republican Party split.  Roosevelt was defiantly the biggest, most powerful person who got in Taft's way.

Taft used his power and influence to do what he thought would be best for the people during his presidency.  Even when many people didn't agree, Taft went through with what he thought was best for the people.  Because he passed things with his power that Roosevelt wouldn't have,  Taft lost that friendship.  Taft did make some good decisions, such as the ideas of the constitutional amendments and the Federal Budget, even though the budget was not passed.  Taft also used his power to appoint a lot of people who were on his side of issues and get rid of a few who opposed him.  Even though Taft did a few good things while he was President, he could have used his power and influence to do a whole lot more.  William Howard Taft's failures out numbered his success.
